The Bajan Fire Fighters' Network is extremely grateful for the two recent donations of smoke detectors provided by firefighters from Germany. In March of this year Thilo Lindemann donated a consignment of smoke detectors to the charity and on Friday last week, Kai Niedermaier also assisted with a donation. The presentations were conducted at the Bridgetown Fire Station where the charity is based.
The Bajan Fire Fighters' Network as an ongoing initiative procures smoke detectors in collaboration with the Barbados Fire Service. The devices are acquired with the kind assistance of our local and international donor partners and affiliates.
The detectors are installed FREE of charge at the homes of senior citizens, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable persons. These early warning devices go a long way in helping the local charity to provide a primary alert capability in the homes of our disabled community in Barbados.
Smoke detectors (alarms) should be installed in sleeping rooms, outside sleeping rooms and on each level of the home. Members of the Fire Prevention Unit (Fire Service) and volunteers from our organisation assist with the installation and maintenance of these early warning devices.
Most of the residential fire deaths in Barbados are in homes where there is no smoke detector present or instances where these devices were not functioning (batteries removed).
Persons or organisations desirous of assisting this worthwhile endeavour can contact the charity at telephone (246) 833-8184 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
